AI Karate Coach

AI Karate Coach

Sharper kata. Better kumite.

mmaGPT is an AI karate coach app: film a round, upload it, and in about 30 to 45 seconds you get timestamped notes on what went wrong and a drill to fix it, to bring to your next class.

Upload a kata run, a kihon set or a kumite round. mmaGPT checks your hip rotation, your chamber, your stance transitions and the distance you fight at.

An AI karate coach, on demand.

Karate rewards precision, and most of what holds a karateka back is small. A gyaku-zuki that starts in the shoulder instead of the hip loses most of its power before the fist moves. A mawashi-geri with a lazy chamber telegraphs itself a beat early, which is all a kumite opponent needs. Stance transitions in kata collapse at the moment the weight shifts, so the form looks strong in the freeze frames and soft in between them. From the inside of the movement, none of this is easy to feel, and an instructor running a full dojo cannot watch every rep of every student.

mmaGPT is an AI karate coach that reviews a 20 to 60 second clip of your training. It checks hip rotation and the connection from the floor through the hips on gyaku-zuki, the knee position and pivot on mawashi-geri, the distance and timing you work at in kumite, and the depth, balance and weight transfer of your stance transitions in kata. It returns timestamped notes on what went wrong plus a drill to fix it, written for your grade rather than for a competition squad. It works alongside your instructor, never instead of one: it is a second set of eyes for the kata you practice at home and the rounds your sensei did not get to watch. Film on your phone, upload in the browser, and bring the drill to your next class.

What we coach in Karate

The techniques that move the needle.

Gyaku-zuki hip rotation

Whether the punch starts from the hip and the back foot, or from the shoulder. Power in a reverse punch comes from the floor through the hips, and the hips are where it is usually lost.

Mawashi-geri chamber

Knee height and the pivot on the standing foot before the kick opens. A tight chamber hides the roundhouse; a loose one announces it.

Kumite distance (maai)

The range you hold, and how you step in and out of it. Most scoring exchanges are decided by who controls distance a beat before the attack.

Kata stance transitions

Depth, balance and weight transfer between stances. Kata is usually strong in the stopped positions and soft in the movement between them.

Online karate coaching

An online karate coach that works around your schedule.

Most karateka train two or three times a week and run kata alone at home. That home practice is where habits set, because nobody is there to see them. With mmaGPT you film a run or a round on your phone, upload it in the browser and get feedback in about a minute. Take the drill to your next class and ask your instructor to check it.
