Karate App
The AI Karate Training App
Your first analysis is free, no card needed. After that, plans start at $19 a month.
Most karate apps are workout videos and kata libraries. mmaGPT's AI coach watches your own kihon, kata and kumite, marks each mistake with a timestamp and gives you the drill that fixes it.
- Gyaku-zuki hip rotation
- Mawashi-geri chamber
- Kata stance transitions
- Kumite distance
- A drill for each mistake
A karate app that watches you train.
Karate rewards precision, and what holds most karateka back is small. A gyaku-zuki that starts in the shoulder instead of the hip loses its power before the fist moves. A mawashi-geri with a loose chamber announces itself a beat early. Kata looks strong in the freeze frames and goes soft in the transitions between them. You can't feel any of that from inside the movement, and a sensei running a full dojo can't watch every rep.
mmaGPT is the second set of eyes for the reps nobody watched. It works alongside your sensei, never instead of one: bring the note and the drill to your next class.
How it works
Film it, upload it, fix it.
1. Film 20 to 60 seconds
Phone at hip height, filming from the side with your whole body in frame, feet included. A kihon set, one kata or a kumite round is enough.
2. Upload it in your browser
Pick karate and your grade. The feedback is written for your level: a white belt hears about stance and hikite, a black belt hears about timing and kime.
3. Read the notes and run the drill
Each mistake comes with a timestamp, a plain description of what happened and one drill. Film the same thing a week later and see whether the note has moved.
What it grades
The details that decide a grading.
- Gyaku-zuki and oi-zuki: power from the floor through the hips, and the hikite
- Mae-geri and mawashi-geri: chamber height, support-foot pivot, recovery
- Kata: stance depth, balance and weight transfer between stances
- Kumite: distance (maai), entries and exits, guard while attacking
- Blocks: timing, and whether they finish in a position you can counter from

Karate app: common questions.

- Yes. mmaGPT checks the depth, balance and weight transfer of your stance transitions, which is where most kata goes soft: strong in the stopped positions, loose in the movement between them. Film from the side with your feet in frame.
- Yes. In kumite it reads the distance you hold, how you step in and out of it, your guard while you attack, and whether your mawashi-geri or gyaku-zuki telegraphs before it lands.
- Yes. Kihon and kata at home review well, often better than sparring footage, because the mistakes are cleaner to see. Prop your phone at hip height, film 20 to 60 seconds and upload it in the browser.
- mmaGPT is the best karate app if you want feedback on your own technique: an AI coach reviews your clip and gives you timestamped notes plus a drill for each mistake. For follow-along workouts or kata libraries, see our comparison of the best karate apps.
- mmaGPT runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop, so you open mmagpt.app and upload your clip. A native app is in development.
